Gyanpeeth Award winner Vinda Karandikar’s (b.1918) works have had a seminal influence on Marathi Literature. Poet, critic, essayist and translator, his luminous writing is fired by a restless search for truth. The son of a Brahmin farmer, he became an English Professor and represents the contradictions and tensions of modern Indian culture.
